Display Case
The boat is MONTHS away from completion (and that’s assuming I quit my job and do nothing else!), but I’ve gotten a display case for the VIIC and the upcoming Gato (it’s a given I’m getting it.) My wife, also a modeller, turned the black 2nd hand cabinet into a brushed stainless look; we added mirrors and I drew a Kriegsmarine Karte for the bottom.

Kriegsmarine Chart
(The chart is not completely accurate, I was working from a partial scan for reference: the grid doesn’t quite match up properly, and the “A” series of grids is not even the right shape (much too time-consuming for this project), but I think it looks good in the cabinet. I may redo the graphic and accurize it. My wife thinks it would be a nice base for a model - shrink it to appropriate base size (400 x 120mm or 16 x 5"), glue it to wood, or have it laminated and blockmounted with a bevelled edge.
Now I just have to finish the model!
AMMO CONTAINER & HATCHES
While waiting for the last of the hull work to settle, I started on the decks. I decided to have one of the ammo containers open, with a crewman and a crate stowing shells. Here’s a rough test fit.
88mm watertight shell container
UPDATE: I was unhappy with the thickness of the hatch, semi-hand machined a new one from acrylic rod. (Had to buy a piece 2 meters long (6 feet) to get this little piece!
New hatch
I’m going to have crewmen loading provisions through the Galley hatch too.
