I wanted simple and easy. The equipment locker is filled with detail greeblies, so that was out.

The emergency airlock would require reposing Dave, including turning the gloves into hands.

The pod bay was too big.

I chose the HAL Logic Room - the space behind the command deck that leads to the HAL Brain Room.

This is where Dave, fuming mad, unlocks the Brain Room door and crawls in to deactivate HAL.

The room is also filled with greeblies, but I chose to build only two bulkheads.

I used a drawing program to trace screen captures and draw plans. Unfortunately, the set was either shot at long range or from ankle height with a wide-angle lens. The removable floor was also placed at different heights: sometimes Dave can easily reach the ceiling handholds, and sometimes he can't. The distortion made it difficult to get accurate measurements, so I went for an overall “feel”.
